Frequently asked questions.
What types of doves are used for releases?
We use rock doves, for our releases. These birds possess a strong homing instinct, allowing them to safely return to their lofts after being released. It's important to note that ringneck doves, often found in pet stores and other types of doves, lack this homing ability and should not be released into the wild.
Where do the doves go after they are released?
After release, our doves typically circle overhead briefly to orient themselves before heading back to their home lofts, where they are provided with food and care. My loft is in Hamilton in our garden.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the event?
The safety of our doves is paramount. We do not conduct releases in adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain, fog, strong winds, or extreme temperatures. In such cases, we will work with you to reschedule the release or discuss alternative arrangements.
Is it safe to release doves?
Yes, when conducted by professionals using trained homing pigeons, dove releases are safe. Our birds are well-cared for, regularly trained, and monitored to ensure their well-being during and after releases.
Which area do you cover?
Our doves are trained to return home from anywhere in Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Paisley. We hope to increase this distance over time but for now that is where we are confident our doves can make it home safely from.
How far in advance should we book a dove release?
We recommend booking your dove release at least two to four weeks in advance to ensure availability, especially during peak event seasons. For funeral services, we understand that arrangements are often last-minute and can accommodate bookings with shorter notice. Please do not be afraid to contact me at short notice as I will always do my best to fit you in.
What does releasing white doves Symbolise?
White doves have long been symbols of peace, love, hope, and new beginnings. Their release during events like weddings signifies the couple's unity and the start of their shared journey, while at funerals, it represents the soul's peaceful ascent and the hope for eternal peace.
Will the doves create a mess during the release?
While dealing with live animals always carries some unpredictability, our doves are managed with care, and incidents during releases are rare. In my three years of being in business, I can count on one hand the amount of times the Doves have made a mess.
I always have hand sanitiser in my bag as well just incase.
Can anyone release the doves, or is assistance provided?
Most people I have met have never held a bird before in their lives, I am there every step of the way to show you how to hold and release the Doves safely. Children are also welcome to hold the Doves, younger ones may need some help from an adult but there is always a way in which they can be involved.
